Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Clean the Injection Port
-
Put on the included nitrile gloves.
-
Thoroughly wipe the grey injection port with the included alcohol and chlorhexidine prep pads.
Step 2: Inoculate the Bag
-
Attach the sterile needle to your syringe.
-
Inject roughly 2mL of fluid through the grey silicone injection port into multiple parts of the bag.
Step 3: Recap and Wait
-
Remove the needle and attach a sterile syringe cap.
-
Leave the bag until the white mycelium covers all the bottom rye grain. This process can take 4-8 weeks.
Step 4: Break & Shake
-
Once the rye grain is colonized by mycelium, break it up and mix it into the top section of the bag.
-
Wait until the entire bag is colonized and turns white.
Step 5: Start Fruiting Conditions
-
Cut a small 5-10 cm "X" into either the side or top of the bag, depending on the mushroom species.
-
Spray the hole with water 4-6 times daily to simulate rainfall.
-
Optimal growing conditions are 90-100% humidity and a temperature of 22-28°C. Fruiting can take 1-3 weeks.
Step 6: Time to Harvest!
-
After a few days of misting and fanning, small mushroom "pins" will appear and eventually grow into fully developed mushrooms.
-
Harvest the mushrooms by gently twisting them from the base and enjoy!
Pro Tip for Multiple Harvests
To achieve multiple harvests, submerge your colonized brick underwater to rehydrate and restart the fruiting process. Submerge the cake for 10 hours to fruit up to another 1-3 times.
