How To Grow Mushrooms From Grain

Select the bag you are using

Growing mushrooms is a simple process, and one of the best ways to scale your mushroom grow setup for cheap. Rye grain is the best grain as mycelium can access the nutrients quickly, thereby speeding up colonisation time and the grain has a higher resistance to contamination compared to other varieties.

Follow this simply process to work out which bag method suits you!

  • Mushroom Spore Syringe

  • CVG All-In-One Bag

  • Sterile Kit

  • Spray Bottle

Step-by-Step Method

Step 1: Clean the Injection Port

  1. Put on the included nitrile gloves.

  2. Thoroughly wipe the grey injection port with the provided alcohol and chlorhexidine prep pads.

Step 2: Inoculate the Bag

  1. Attach the sterile needle to your syringe.

  2. Inject approximately 2mL of fluid through the grey silicone injection port into various parts of the bag.

Step 3: Recap and Wait

  1. Remove the needle and attach a sterile syringe cap.

  2. Allow the bag to sit until the white mycelium covers all the rye grain at the bottom. This process can take 2-3 weeks.

Step 4: Ready to Spawn!

  1. Once the rye grain is colonized by mycelium, pour the mix into a Boom Box or Inflatable Monotub.

  2. Close the lid and wait for the mycelium to completely cover the top surface, which can take up to a week.

Step 5: Start Fruiting Conditions

  1. Once the top is colonized, fan the tub 3-5 times daily to circulate airflow.

  2. Frequently spray with water to simulate rainfall and maintain humidity.

  3. Optimal growing conditions are 90-100% humidity and a temperature of 22-28°C. Fruiting can take 1-4 weeks.

Step 6: Time to Harvest!

  1. After a few days of misting and fanning, small mushroom "pins" will appear and eventually grow into fully developed mushrooms.

  2. Harvest the mushrooms by gently twisting them from the base and enjoy!

Pro Tip for Multiple Harvests

To achieve multiple harvests, submerge your colonized brick under water to rehydrate and restart the fruiting process. Submerge the cake for 10 hours to fruit up to another 1-3 times.
